The sale of SPSSO subscription tickets for the 2016-2017 season is starting on the first day of March.
The tickets for the fiftieth anniversary season of the Petersburg ensemble can be purchased in the box office of Princes Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace (41 Nevsky Prospekt), from distributors, and in the city’s ticket booths. An unusual concert will be played on Sunday, February 28 at 13:00, in the Mirror Hall of Princes Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace. It will present compositions of St. Petersburg’s young composers, winners of the Musical Zoo on the Fontanka competition, and Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns. Concert’s conductor: Dmitry Russu. The piano soloists are Parisian Bertrand Giraud and Yuri Serov of St. Petersburg.
On Saturday, February 27, in the Concert Hall of the Mravinsky School of Arts (44 Varshavskaya Street) SPSSO musicians will play a charity concert for children of foster homes of St. Petersburg and Moskovsky District of the city. The program includes a narrative about musical instruments and the famous Carnival of the Animals, a Zoological Fantasy of the French classic Camille Saint-Saëns. The concert begins at 12:00.
An unusual program will be presented in the Mirror Hall of Princes Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace on February 21. SPSSO will perform in partnership with musicians from the Basque Country. Unai Urrecho will be at the conductor’s desk, with Garikoitz Mendizabal, a virtuoso txistu player, as the concert soloist (txistu is an ancient Basque flute). The program features music of Basque, Spanish, and French composers related to the Basque folk tradition.
A next concert of the “Mozartianas in Petersburg” cycle will be played in the Concert Hall of the Cappella (Choir Chapel) on February 14. Under the baton of Peter Feranec, SPSSO will perform music of Mendelssohn and Beethoven. Pianist Andrei Korobeinikov loved by Petersburg’s audiences will appear as soloist in the enchanting D minor concerto of Mozart.
From 5 to 8 February in all the box offices of St. Petersburg tickets for “Mozartianas in St Petersburg” at the Glinka Philharmonic Hall, February 9 and at the Capella Concert Hall, February 14 can be purchased at a discount of 50%.
From February 1, 2016 all music lovers are getting the long-awaited ability to buy tickets right on the official website of the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra. This ability is now accessible also to social network users.
SPSSO has summed up the results of “The Zoo on the Fontanka” competition of young composers. The judges decided to encourage seven compositions at once:
All the seven competition winning pieces will be performed in the concert of February 28, 2016, and prizes will be handed to the authors.
SPSSO is finishing the composer’s jubilee year by performing the famous Fifth Symphony on December 12 and 13. The works of the prominent Russian were played in the orchestra’s 2015 programs as frequently as never before, both in and outside Russia. Without doubt, Tchaikovsky’s music will be an important part of the SPSSO repertoire also in the years to come.
SPSSO has finished accepting applications for the “Zoo on the Fontanka” competition of young composers. The project has attracted serious attention, and over 20 pieces were received. For the February 28 concert, the contest panel will select five most interesting miniatures dedicated to dwellers of the Leningrad Zoo. The results will be announced by the end of December.
